Teluga And Salwar Kameez

Due to my recent marriage I am writing this article. I am very fortunate to have had the perfect wedding with the perfect man and I feel delighted!

The wedding proceeding combined Telugu and South Indian styles. Prayers to Lord Vinavaka at the beginning of the ceremony were used to ensure no problems during the wedding. As is tradition for an Indian bride, I decided to wear a saree. I went out shopping for a ‘Kanchi Patu’ saree in particular where Kanchi is the Indian word for silk. Red or yellow is the color of choice for a wedding saree but black should be avoided.

Avoiding food ahead of the wedding to fit into smaller clothes is a mistake. The wedding pictures will depict an exhausted bride if she chooses to go an a severe diet ahead of the wedding. Prior to the wedding maintain your normal diet. In the lead up to the wedding maintain your energy levels by remaining well hydrated with water and fruit juices. : I attended a friend’s wedding and briefly thought I was at the wrong one! Do a trial run with your makeup and keep it minimal to maintain a great look otherwise you’ll be unrecognizable to your friends and family like my friend was. During your wedding be sure to look your best – it is your day after all!

At a wedding one of the most critical elements is the menu. Starting off with 4 to 5 starters and then moving to 10 to 15 entrees paired with 4 to 5 side dishes is the normal progression for a wedding. When hosting a traditional Indian wedding then you should present traditional vegeterian fare such as plain rice, biryani, naan, dosa, Sambaar, Daal, Rasam, vegetable curries and fried vegetables.

Serving desserts and sweets is expected during the dinner. You can delight your guests by serving dry fruit and nut sweets and others such as kheer, laddu, barfee, halwa, jalebi, gulab, jamun, and roshogulla. The bride’s family and the groom’s family will host events for a few days prior to the wedding. The bride’s hands are adorned using Henna during the most popular event at her home dubbed the ‘mehandi function’.

A night of singing and dancing with both families attending is one such event and is called ‘Sangeet’. With guest lists in the hundreds and lots of planning, Indian weddings are very elaborate events. A wedding is not just one day with the events typically spreading over a few days. Given all the pre-wedding festivities it is not surprising that costs can run into the thousands and these costs are bourn by the bride’s parents. If you want to see an Indian wedding first hand then search the Internet as there are a few videos out there.
